EPIC Addiction counsellor

Key Responsibilities

As an Addiction Recovery Counsellor, you will:

  • Provide one-on-one counseling (in-person and virtual), group facilitation, and personalized recovery planning.

  • Support clients in developing emotional resilience and coping strategies for long-term recovery.

  • Conduct biopsychosocial assessments and develop client-centred treatment plans.

  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to create and implement tailored recovery plans.

  • Monitor client progress and adjust therapeutic goals in collaboration with the clinical team.

  • Support clients in exploring their emotional, behavioural, social, and spiritual well-being.

  • Utilize evidence-based practices such as CBT, DBT, Motivational Interviewing, or Trauma-Informed Care.

  • Maintain accurate and confidential client records in alignment with legal and organizational standards.

  • Identify risks and initiate crisis response protocols as needed.

  • Participate in ongoing professional development, team meetings, and training sessions.

  • Collaborate with care workers, peer staff, and administrative team to ensure cohesive service delivery.

  • Maintain professional boundaries and uphold confidentiality at all times.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Education: Degree/Diploma in Addiction Studies, Social Work with a background in addiction, Psychology, or Counseling.

  • Certification: Relevant credentials such as CCAC, RSW, CPCA, OCSWSSW, or equivalent.

  • Experience: Minimum of 2 years in addiction counseling or mental health services.

  • Skills:

    • Strong interpersonal and communication abilities.

    • Empathy and cultural sensitivity in client interactions.

    • Proficiency in documentation and organizational tools.

    • Deep understanding of addiction, co-occurring disorders, harm reduction, and recovery models.

    • Strong emotional intelligence and ability to engage with diverse populations.

    • Capacity to manage crisis situations and set healthy boundaries.

    • CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).

    • Must have a valid Vulnerable Sector Check
